My journey with photography has mirrored the pathway which my life has been following. Having grown up as Janet Hughes on a ranch near the foothills of Longview, Alberta, I’ve always been surrounded by beauty. It was there that I started taking photos of flowers, landscapes and animals that were begging for a photo shoot. As I ventured further and further from home my passion for photography heightened as I aspired to capture the wonders that accompany distant lands and cultures.

Weddings then became very popular within my social circles. I loved to be the unofficial photographer, creating my own image storybook of the day while also intently studying the moves of the official photographer. Then, little ones started arriving in the homes of my family and friends. I was captivated by the magic of children and I began to see their charm through the lens of my camera.

Through all these stages, bringing a smile to one’s face or tears to one’s eyes as a photograph is first seen has always been a wonderful reward for me. My desire to capture the special moments of our lives and the personalities of our children to treasure forever has led to Visual Hues Photography.

My goal is to create images that will tug at your heart and warm your soul. Whether it is a few days or a few years after your wedding, I want you to you re-live the emotions of your special day as you browse through your wedding album. I want a smile to spread across the face as you see the individuality of your children all wrapped up in a single photograph. And I want the closeness of family and relationships to be preserved in images for years to come.

I promise to bring this deep desire to our time together. With a huge love for people and the uniqueness each one of us possesses, I assure you that our photography session will be relaxing and fun. And at the end of it all, you will have memories that speak not only to your eyes, but also your heart.

I live in Calgary, Alberta with my incredibly supportive and amazing husband, Harold and our treasure, Hailey, born in December of 2005.
